Muscle

When you go to the gym, you should be burning calories instead of dollars.

That is why I came up with the concept, UI, and branding for an app called Muscle. Muscle connects you to a network of local gyms in your area which offer free guests or are free for residents.

The concept came from two key insights:

1. There are many empty residential gyms in urban areas, as many new buildings offer them but they are rarely used.

2. Going to the gym is a social effort. For many, finding a gym partner or workout buddy is motivation to not only go to the gym, but to try harder while there.

So how does this all work?

There are two groups of people on the app, hosts and users. Users are looking for a gym to use. Hosts are looking to host a workout buddy at either their residential/office gym or their members only gym which offers free guests.

There are added features like sorting locations by equipment available, finding workout partners through similar fitness methods, and adding your available workout times in order to find workout partners who have the same schedule.

Users are able to look on a map and see all of the locations around them which have been made available by hosts. Since any location may have more than one host, the user gets to see all available hosts, and message them through the app to find a time to work out.
